Today I got a call from an officer in "immigration and customs enforcement" asking for an appointment to visit my residence for checing my immigration status.
I am on H1B visa.
I would appreciate if someone could give any sort of information related to calling for a home visit.

Further to my above post, I have following questions
1) Once the client side project is completed (assuming the employer is paying to employee), how much period we can stay waiting for a new project? Is there any limit of the period?
2) Once the pay from an employer is stopped, with in how much period, one has to go to home country? Is there any limit?
3) Can an employee stay (assuming he is getting paid) with out client side project and working on skill upgrade and waiting for a new project?
4) What are the documents I should be ready with? I am staying with my family.

a) LCA,
b) Passport for me and my family
c) valid visa recently stamped for me and for family
d) approval notice,
e) employment offer letter,
f) clinet appreciation letters print outs,
g) past experience letters,

This cannot happen. Let me tell you why.
If this is allowed, every FB applicant who basically is also waiting for a number to complete consular processing would want the same benefits and this could not be accomodated.
CP was good at the time when you could get it processed and get a green card quicker, it would have had to be a carefully planned decision. Now once the choice is made, requesting derivative benefits of AOS would not work. It was always involving that risk.

I understand the informational part of your post, but i don't understand the bad news part of it. How does getting a 2yr EAD change your I-485 processing? It will get processed whenever it supposed to be processed next.
There are ppl like me - EAD is pending for over 3.5 months and there's no decision. Be content with the fact that yours was approved in time and it's icing on cake that it's 2 yrs validity. the way i see it, it's all good news. Point me to the bad news please.

There are more risks in using AC21 before 140 approval.
Read the Aytes memo of Dec 2005 regarding portability before 140 approval. There is all kinds of things that can go wrong if you port off to a new employer before 140 approval.
Other than employer withdrawing 140, the other issues are that if there is an RFE on your 140 and you have already used portability and ported off to new employer using EAD, then what would you do if that 140 doesnt get approved. Because if your H1 6 years have been used up, you are on EAD status, and your underlying 140 tied to 485 doesnt get approved, then it means you are out of status and you are out of luck. You cant even stay here to appeal the whole thing, you have to pack up and go back.

Sure, why not. An immigrant who is not in valid status is one who is legally not allowed to be in the country. Therefore he is a security threat. If somebody who should not be allowed in your house were in your house, you would consider him to be a security threat, wouldn't you? Am I missing something here?

Thats a good analysis. As you noted EB-2 India got only 14K visas as opposed to other predictions of 30-32K visas. I have long said that the variable here is how EB1 and EB-2 ROW demand numbers. A lot of folks assumed that all the spill over will end up in the EB-2 I/C lap. It does not as long as there is no retrogression across the entire EB-2 category severely, making the old PD golden (this is not going to happen) or there is very less demand for EB1 and EB2-ROW numbers.
While I agree with your analysis, I feel that the number of employers/applicants filing for Labor/140/485 has started a downward spiral in 2008. This means lesser demand for EB1 and EB-2 ROW numbers making the numbers available to EB-2 I & C. Again, it is very well possible that there are just enough number of people from both Eb1 & EB-2 ROW categories left & entering in the system to deny the numbers to EB-2 I & C. Unless the state of the economy continues like this, shedding 600K jobs in one month, equal to number jobs in the state of Maine, we can't say that EB-2 I & C can become close to current or leap into 2007 and beyond. Then we might be current and have a GC but the economic situation would be so worse that people don't care for GC. God Forbid we have to see that and lets hope and pray that the Stimulus will resuscitate the economy

With due respect, please refrain from posting pessimistic rants originating from unofficial sources. This may be true, but common sense should tell everyone to wait for such news to come from official sources.
These are things beyond our control. Best not to get anyone's panties into a bunch over such news. If the GC is not possible, that is still OK. Move back to the country of origin and life will go on - thoug not as planned.

If we want to stay in this country, we need a president who can take this country progressively to the future instead of "lets take the country back" "this is not the country I grew up in" rhetoric! If this country goes backwards in time while the rest of the world embraces progress - guess what? - No use having a GC here.

You are the first guy whose case was transferred to CSC and you got the FP notices. Can you shed more light as many pople, like me, are stuck with no FP notices and we all had Receipts/EAD/AP from CSC...And now the files are back to either NSC or TSC...

Forward movement sounds good..but even with PD current(May,June VB's) folks are just sitting and waiting..just like me..:(

Got my RFE finally. It is for an employment letter. They gave me until 3/19. (RFE was generated on 2/13)

Got my wife's RFE today ( sent to the lawyer who scanned it for us). My wife apparently forgot to sign the medical form before the physician sealed it. We need to go back to the physician have it signed in his presence and have it sealed by him again. Not a big deal I guess.
