OK, you two, I see what you're saying. So one has to pay for the right to start a new thread. In that case those who have questions will start PMing those who seem to know stuff or going offtopic in random threads.
1) Moderators have the ability to delete stuff and the rest of the IV members need to smart up and not answer off-topic questions
2) About PMs. It is up to the receiver of the PM whether to answer it or not. EVEN better NO PM for non paid members :)

Interesting (and scary) article about NumbersUSA and related organizations. Although the article is from 2002, and the numbers will have of course have changed, the article claims that the whole anti immigration movement revolves around a group of about 20 very rich people and a few thousand sympathisers, and that member numbers for these organizations are inflated by dividing the total contributions by the annual membership fee and not taking into account large contributions.

Well..you cut your BS first..just because Its not first hand doesnt mean it is unreal..just because I posted on IV doesnt mean I expected IV to take up this case..just b'coz sucker like you saw two different lanes in the airport doesnt mean all airports are like that..I posted my experience in the airport I travelled thru..I dont have to prove to morons like you.
huh... _ _ ^ _ _
GC, I know you feel like everyone is picking on you but you have to understand its hard for some of us to believe such a thing could happen. A friend's friend story doesn't help either. I do believe you had the best intention in posting this so that people who are traveling can be aware of a potential hassle and be prepared to answer questions.
Now we can eliminate all the guessing and skepticism by just calling your friend and asking for the details of the person who was sent back. If you don't have the time send me a PM with your and your friends email ID and I will followup with him to find out what really happened. Think of it as a fact finding mission and I will help you anyway I can to get to the bottom of this and it will also help a lot of the people here to understand the real situation. Would you be willing to help?

Retrohatao,
Also want to tell you that as the CA team meets lawmakers we give them an informational packet that includes:
(1) Our presentation
(2) CIS Ombudsman's Report:

(3) GAO Report on Backlogs at USCIS
http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d0620.pdf
(4) Exec Summary of NAS Rising Above a Gathering Storm

(5) How Visa Date Cutoffs Are Established from July 2000 Bulletin
http://dosfan.lib.uic.edu/ERC/visa_bulletin/2000-07bulletin.html
Number (3), the GAO report describes the security check problem in tremendous detail. We give this report to lawmakers to remind them of the farcical nature of the security check problem. Note also that the CIS Ombudsman's report also includes critical commentary on the security check problem.
To reiterate, we are committed to removing ALL the hurdles in the process, not pick and choose between them.

I strongly believe that Immigration Voice website should be paid website.
People should be willing to spend $20 per month for the information the website provides(foreg: It was useful for self filers to file I485 and saved atleast $2000 each person), I think $20 per month, should be enough for maintaining 99% reliable website and for its lobbying efforts and law suit etc.
Guys please share your thoughts.
even if 3000 members join paid website that will be 3000*20 = $60000 per month and $720000 per year which is substantial amount to perform lobbying, law suit, maintain website etc

Folks,
Please help me in refining the message: I plan to send to some major media.
*****************************
Dear Sir/Madam,
We are an association of highly skilled immigrants, waiting for our permanent residency status. There are approximately one million such people in this situation.
Before we proceed to make our point, we would like you to consider the following facts regarding ourselves:
 Average age: 30-35 years
Average years of stay in the USA (all legally): 7 years
Average legal status in the USA: Final stage of the green card (called I-485 stage) and posses employment authorization document (EAD), renewable every year, indefinitely till one gets his green card.
 Average Salary: $75K+
Average net worth: 100K-400K (mostly liquid)
Average occupations: Information technology, Doctors and Financial Analysts
Average education level: At least undergraduate
 Average credit history: Excellent
As mentioned earlier, we are in the final stage of our green card process and there are very few rejections (<1%) at this stage. It means that we would eventually get our green cards but it may take several years. Even though the chances of the rejection is very low but most people, out of fear, have been postponing any major investment decisions, like buying a house or a new car, in other words, living conservatively. In addition, due to the turmoil in the market, several of us, in spite of our excellent credit history, income and high liquid net worth may not qualify for loans as EAD is valid for only one year.
Our organization has been urging the government to fix the green card process or at the very least relax the hassles of the yearly renewal ordeal for EADs. Either of these things will bring certainty in our life and prompt some of us to take some big decisions.
We are writing to you with a hope that our situation will be highlighted and our intellectual and financial potential contribution to this country is appreciated.
We conducted a small poll on one of the websites used for organizing ourselves. Almost 60% of the respondents are postponing the decision because of the situation they are in. The poll can be found at http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17660
Yours truly,
XYZ
Might not be extrapolation, but gross misrepresentation. Have you taken a poll or do you have any data to justify all the numbers you are including in the e-mail? If yes, then include the links for that in the letter, otherwise no one is going to believe you.
Why, I can say, I have 10 billion dollars which I will donate to USCIS to improve their system if I get a GC right now.
Please help me in refining the message: I plan to send to some major media.

I still don't believe that USCIS has no say in spill over - think again :)
Yes, the spill over can be implemented differently -- USCIS is implementing the EB1 spillover incorrectly. No law needs to be changed to get USCIS to act in accordance with the law as is currently written; However good luck to you convincing IV to lend support to any EB3 cause.

Well ... that's the sad part. Everyone in core team is probably reading this but no significant feedback or suggestion has come from them. May be they are all too busy or this topic doesn't have any merit or has been discussed in depth already before. I am not sure what's going on.
Nomi my friend, looks like we are on our own on this one. ;)
Do you think no one from core team reading this thread??

Unfortunately one needs to have a GC or be a USC in order to be eliglible for FAFSA or any federal financial aid.
I am in part time MBA program in UCB and many of my classmates with EAD/AP are getting FAFSA benefits. I am also applying for it next year...

this is not the new trend, back in year 2000 to 2003 , when massive layoffs were going on , it has been prevelant since then. Also if this illegal , how about people who got laid off in those years and never went bak home sitting on bench for a year, if you start to fish around, you will find lots and lots of people

Obama or Mccain or Joe the plumber whoever becomes the next president, the bottom line is, nothing is going to happen with regards to reforms for legal immigration atleast for teh first 1-2 years. So we are all still going to keep posting in IV forums, predicting VB dates and fighting between Eb2 and Eb3..... that is really the sad reality....... because these guys have far more important issues to deal and to steer titanic america.......

The democrats will take the house by a very large majority and the senate by a less-than-60 vote majority. So if CIR makes a come back republicans will not be in a very strong position to strike a deal on high-skilled immigration. But there are a number of democrats who also support high-skilled immigration. People opposed to H1B and employment-based green card reforms are on both sides of the aisle (Dems Dick Durbin and Byron Dorgan, Republicans Jeff Sessions and Chuck Grassley for example) but hopefully they will remain a minority. It also looks like vocal supporters like Jon Cornyn will win re-election. But Pete Domenici is retiring. So, on the balance, there will be some change but not a drastic change on the legislative side.
Sen Obama is a very pragmatic and thoughtful person. You should know that he was co-sponsor of the PACE Act which, among other things, tried to create a F4 visa and make it very easy for STEM graduates to get green cards. There is absolutely no need to be panicked about a Obama win. Sen McCain, on the other hand, seems to have gone back on many of his immigration promises these last few months. It will be a concern if there is a democratic congress and McCain is in the White House.
Thanks for re-articulating what I posted earlier. Well said!
