I applied for I-140, I-485, AP and EAD on 8/15/07. I got my EAD and the case status online got updated accordingly. But, for my other three applications I get the following errors:

    -----------
    Validation Error(s)
You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:

    * Case Status Retrieval Failed
    * This Receipt Number cannot be found at this time in this automated system. Please check your case receipt number to see if it is correct. If you have questions or concerns about your case status, please contact the National Customer Service Center.
    ----------------------

I got receipt notices for all 4 applications on 10/16/07 and have double-checked my receipt notices for case # for typos.

Is anybody else in the same boat?

    Thanks.

In California they ask no questions.
I went for renewal with all papers including passport.
They did not even ask for any status or anything. Issued the DL for five years.

This sounds so much like those puzzles we used to ask each other... You have 2 batsmen each on 98 and only 3 runs to win. how will both get 100... or some such (this is actually very easy)- I dont recollect the exact question.

All the people who crib about red dots: There is nothing IV can do about it.
This is a feature of the forum software. If some one uses foul language in forum posts then admins can warn them or block them. It is not possible if they do it in comments.

Actuallly, I suggest IV kickout anyone who cribs about red dots or that someone is using foul language in PMs/comments.

Keep the eye on the ball guys. If you see all the bullshit the IV admins bare with some other guy showing up every few weeks asking questions as if IV Core is getting rich off of the contributions. And some other guy shows up with a great plan (no sarcasm intended) asking CORE to make his thread sticky instead of keeping the thread on top by bumping it every few hours or so.Then when the core doesn't respond to their idea/request to make the thread sticky start abusing them. They take all that in stride and still continue to pour their hearts into something they believe in.
Now here are people so worried that they got a red dot and need the grievance be addressed. If not they will be afraid to post. If all it takes some one to stop you from posting your ideas is to give a red dot, how can any progress be made?

    Think about it people.

With a comment "ooooo". I want the IV admin's to find out who that coward is and ban them from any and every board that is out there on internet. If they don't do it, I will be so scared of posting any of my thoughts in future as that person will come and give me more red , depriving IV of a valuable member.
Just kidding. As you guessed, things are a little slow at work today.

That is accurate I have done 10+2+1+3

Ummm.. I did not know that one can do a diploma after 10th grade in India and after that, a year to get bachelors? You are right... its not very clear from the original post.. and can easily be misinterpreted as (10+2+3+1) which is 16 years of education.

OP, could you please confirm if this is the case with your background.

Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_and_Nationality_Act_of_1965)

Please look back at this country's immigration laws over the years. When Europeans were immigrating to in large numbers, they didn't have any issues with that. They never felt the need of country cap. When non-Europeans started immigrating in large numbers, america suddenly realizes she has to be "fair" to all countries in the world and fairer to whites in particular.

It is such a shame that this country covers up racism with "diversity" in this 21st century.

Probably you are right. But the issue is not the country limit!!!!!!!!

Take example EB3, how you think will look like EB3 on the next visa bulletin without country limits. EB-3 probably will be June 2002.

Our receipt date is 9/10. No FP notices yet. Got EADs and APs well in time.
I opened SR for myself on 10/11 and my wife on 10/16. Exactly after 45 days, today I got 2 letters from them. There is no logic in what I see in them. Here are they:
Response to my SR: Our review indicates that this case is actually within our processing time. We regret any misunderstanding. If you don't recv a decision or notice of other action within our current processing time, check our website or call cust service. All returned documents will be re-mailed.
    xmo217.
Response to spouse's SR: The status of the service request is :
Biometrics must be taken at the ASC in your area. When an appt. becomes available you will be notified by mail when and where to report. Please allow 4 months to receive your appt for biometrics.

Finally the real twist ..... We had an infopass appt at Dallas center last week. The IO asked me the purpose of the visit and I had informed her about our cases. She looked at our cases and said that our files are not yet opened. I was confused and upon my request to explain in detail, she said our files were not assigned to anyone and are with TSC. She suggested me to call USCIS Natioanl Cust serv and ask them to send a request for the files to be opened. I have never come across/read such a scenario. I got further confused and was wondering how come we got EADs and APs when our files were not "opened". There was no clearcut answer for that. She advised me to call them and quote that we visited Infopass and they advised us to call USCIS asking our files to be opened. I am not sure if this works or not.

But the greatest relief came at the end of the appt ....both of us got cleared in the background check. I am assuming that background check and name check are one and the same. Friends,Correct me if I am wrong. She said as of Oct 18th, we were cleared.
Looking at all these things, I am not sure how the process is taking place !
I haven't called USCIS yet as I thought that I would wait till 45 days are over since I opened SRs for FPs. Now it's over and I just got the responses for the SRs today.

    SATISH.

Well my friend, don't bring your pretentious "I'm-so-great-I'm-non-judgemental-oo-la-la" BS here. If we don't make it clear in our replies that we do not condone any actions that break the law, we are just making it easier for anti-immigration people to easily point fingers at us and claim we are all drug peddlers or criminal.

I would urge more members here to reply to the OP that we at IV do not have any sympathy for people breaking the law.

As for you, think before you type!

With your history of getting rammed here i would avoid saying that if i was you,

I agree with making it clear that we ( the forum members) condone actions breaking the law but there is a difference between telling the same to a person in a professional manner as against shoving our personal moralistic BS in their face.

I guess this bill passage is a trigger to all skilled workers to do the following.

Option-1: Become Illegal and get a Z visa.

Options-2: Go back to home land and live with dignity and peace of mind. (This is the option I would take). I am thankfully to the congress for helping me to make a decision, rather then wait for life time.

Options-3: Re-apply in merit based system and wait in line for 4 to 5 years, until some other similar bill comes and says you to restart again in some other system.

Questions for everyone to research and post the answers------

-- Is there any real example on any internet forum, website or blog where someone faced problem in citizenship because they left their sponsor employer before 6 months expired? Do not find opinion but a real proof.

-- Can any lawyer provide a case example to illustrate the above. We can go into detail, talk to USCIS and seek clarification.

-- Is there anywhere in the law, memo or rulebook that says 6 month employment is needed after getting green card.

I tend to agree too that nothing will happen, too much talking, too much BS, but, I can only hope that the republicans know that they can loose the house control, so, maybe they will prefer to have something more conservative than nothing.

Check out the following article from the OC register here http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/homepage/abox/article_1053340.php

If this is true, this seems to be good news for us. The McCain Kennedy bill is the most pro-immigrant of the bills and if thats what becomes the Comprehensive Immigration Bill, we all might end up happy!

WASHINGTON The Senate Judiciary Committee today reached agreement on proposals for a new guest-worker program and a plan to allow the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States to become permanent residents.

Less than 24 hours after most experts and Capitol Hill watchers believed the committee would be unable to get a bill to the Senate floor by Majority Leader Bill Frist's March 27 deadline, committee Chairman Arlen Specter had brokered deals between some key senators on the complex issue.

No formal votes were taken and committee staffs were preparing to spend the next 10 days drafting language that would put in place the compromises reached. It appeared that at least a dozen of the 18 members on the panel would be prepared to back this deal. The committee plans to meet first thing in the morning on March 27. It is not yet known whether Frist will allow the panel to finish and send its bill to the Senate floor or if he still plans to bring up a more limited, possibly enforcement-only measure.

But even if nothing scuttles the compromise between now and when lawmakers get back from recess, and if the Senate passes a bill with these elements, there would remain a steep battle to get agreement from the House. The House passed an enforcement-based measure in December that doesn't include a guest-worker program or a plan for undocumented immigrants in the United States now.

Early this afternoon, Frist announced his intention to introduce a bill before next weeks recess that would deal with enforcement of immigration laws but will not include any of the controversial guest-worker or illegal immigrant provisions. Officials in Frists office say he is doing this to ensure that there is a bill ready on the floor if the committee fails to pass one. If Specter does get a bill out of committee, said Frist press secretary Amy Call, that could be substituted for the majority leaders measure.

The most likely scenario, said ardent supporters of immigration reform who were pleasantly stunned by today's events, is that this will end in a stalemate, only to be brought up again in the next Congress. But they say it's important that the Senate go on record as supporting comprehensive change.

For the first time, Specter, R-Pa., who said he spent hours on the phone last night with Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., agreed to Kennedy's plan to deal with the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants. Specter would have allowed these people to work indefinitely but not get green cards. Kennedy wanted to give them a path to legalization.

Specter agreed this morning with Kennedy's approach, provided that these illegal immigrants would not be able to start legalization proceedings until the backlog of 3 million people now waiting in countries around the world for their chance to come to the United States legally get their green cards.

The deal reached on a new guest-worker plan says that 400,000 new guest workers would be allowed into the country each year. Under the proposal authored by Kennedy and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., that number would have been unlimited. But Kennedy, a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, agreed to a cap and also agreed that after working for two years, these new guest workers would have to go back to their home countries and reapply for another stint as guest workers, one that could last up to six years. But first they'd have to stay in their home countries for one year.

Built into this compromise, however, is a chance for these workers to get a waiver and not go home based on how long they have been employed here or if they are considered essential to a U.S. employer's business.

The plan also allows guest workers to apply for permanent U.S. residency, something not included in either Specter's bill or the other major proposal under consideration, the bill by Sens. John Cornyn, R-Texas and Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.

Kennedy essentially compromised with Cornyn, who chairs the immigration subcommittee. The deal takes parts of each of their proposals.

Not all members of the committee agreed with these compromises.
Kyl said he still believed the illegal immigrants would get preference over those waiting legally in line overseas because the undocumented would be able to stay in the U.S. and work until their turn at a green card came. Those waiting to come here legally don't have that option, he said.

And several committee members most opposed to a guest-worker program most notably Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., were not at this morning's session.
