So, bottom line is CIR will pass after health care. But, I'll not bet too much on provisions for 'legal immigrants'. Since we are the only dog bone that 'Donkeys' have got to gain any required support for CIR. We need to work hard to get our provisions on the first draft and do everything possible to be included in the final version of the bill.

You are right on target....EB2/3 reform is the only bone that CIR lobby has to get
support for CIR. And they will hold EB2/3 reform hostage till that time.

It would be great if you tell me how to go about with police complain for lost passport? Is it just I have to call 911 or go in person? And what questions they ask?

You should not call 911. You should call the county police, they will ask you either to walk in to the nearest police station or some times you can ask the police officer to meet at a particular place. In my case I asked the police officer to come to the nearest Fedex Kinko's. He came to Kinko's sat with me and asked simple questions. The officers are usually very helpful and he/she will provide you a complaint no, and visiting card. You need this complaint no. when you are applying for a duplicate passport.

Hi,
I will be traveling to India tomorrow and My AP expires 30-Aug-2010. My trip is only for 10 days and I will be back by Aug12.
So I was wondering if there will be any issues at POE or in India, since my AP expires in less than 30 days?
This is my second trip on AP.
Also, what all I need to carry? I have EAD, Employment letter, 485-receipt, 2 Pay stubs, W2 ?
Adding to this, my PD will be current from Aug-1st :(
Any suggestions, inputs most welcome. (This is a medical emergency with parent.so cannot avoid)

However I think that you can substitute the underlying 140 to the EB2 petition with the earlier priority date and hence make your 485 approvable. You are entitled to the better PD and category. You do however need to work with the petitioning employer, which based on your approval could end up being the Eb2 petition employer.
The suggestion to file AOS for the other one is also a good idea, since your EB2 140 PD is almost certain to stay current for some time, You might very well be able to get your green card through CP within a few months.

The State Dept. has ssured that it is looking for mechanisms to maximize number usage so that no visa numbers remain unallocated, and is looking for ways to make additional India and China-mainland born numbers available, such as by making sure that unused numbers that had been sent to consular posts are promptly returned

Any response to that ? My wife's EAD is expiring on Oct 22nd , I have e-filed for her EAD renewal , got the receipt and the FP notice promptly, but after Sep 03 FP, no status update and I have seen people applying after me ( paper filed ) getting CPO emails :( , so can she work on the receipt or not ? any pointers ?
Just to add, her EAD renewal is pending at NSC but the FP notice came from MSC, hope NSC can access the biometrics from MSC ( heard some cases where once center could not access the other center's biometrics )

I have heard some people use the CP route thinking that once the dates get current, they will get Green Card faster than AOS route. Some people use it as a back-up. But I am not sure what made you opt for this if you knew you will deny yourself EAD and AP benefits.

I assume there could be 10 to 15% CP filers out of total, say, 400K pending 485 cases. So, between 40 to 50k CP filers. Not sure how many out of this would be India/China. Is this number not big enough for asking for some admin fix?

If DOS/USCIS know very well that this retrogression is gonna be there for the next 5-10 years and EB3 I have to wait for 10-15 years, does it not make sense to ask for a relief like EAD for CP filers?

I can't sleep all night.. cmon atleast give us few options.
My take on the permanent solution:
1. Recapture lost visa numbers
2. Medical tests are going to be valid indefinitely
3. Ppl who've worked for X years automatically can apply for I-485
5. All can apply as per the old bulletin
6. ????
cmon guys help me with this.i'm running out of ideas..:D
just have a couple of beers..you will be ok..like me :)

You can give your OPT A# but once you're assigned a permanent visa number, they'll give you a different number. Your OPT A# is just a temporary number.
I think you mean once you are assigned a permanent A# ! It is assigned before a visa number is assigned.
A number series starting with 1 (eg. for OPT) are temporary. Those starting with 9 are permanent.

I got an SR response back saying that my application is "waiting to be assigned to an officer"...whatever that means...isnt every application so? I think SRs are just as useless as any other 'customer service' provided by USCIS...

Instead of posting questions here, PLEASE send it to the email (legal_advise@immigrationvoice.org) with proper format (as mentioned by IV member "sertasheep" in starting of this thread like name, city/state, question....) so that it will be easier for IV team to compile your questions.
