They probably would have just picked up and left after that five year reprieve. That has happened multiple times where I live - the factories come for tenish years, their tax exemption ends, and they leave. Then the massive local unemployment starts again

Yeah the buttons at the bottom of that window are the ones.

Wow, they've completely changed the "about this Mac" screen for the first time in Mac OSX. Its looks way better, and you no longer need to go into the system profiler to get basic stats, or use iStat Pro. Wow...:D Can NOT wait to get Lion!

It's still not in the dashboard so I'm not too sure about it replacing iStat Pro. Don't think I want to click :apple: -> About this Mac -> System and then view the information. Would rather just hit F4

I was lazily browsing through the sale flyers of my Sunday paper when a thought (the merit of which I'll leave for you to decide) occurred to me:

There is now heavy marketing of the fall fashions, which, as always, include sweaters. Now, these sweaters are quite colorful and come in a seemingly infinite array of patterns. As I surveyed the dizzying displays, I noted that it is widely accepted in many contexts of life to decorate one's torso with a colorfully patterned shirt, no matter the season. On the other hand, if one were to attempt wearing similarly expressive attire on his lower half, he would be mistaken for an out-of-touch golfer (or trendsetting one, depending on your perspective), a professional clown, perhaps, or someone who forgot to change out of his pajamas. Why is this? I do not believe that there is anything inherent in pants or the wearing of pants that would require them to stay below a specified level of colorfulness. How did it come about that we accept a colorful torso without question but have strong suspicions about the mental stability of one who wears expressive pants?

Just wondering what you all thought about that. Some may say that the combination of wild shirts with pants is too much, and I agree, but I ask why not have a plain shirt and wild pants? Why hasn't this reverse taken root instead of the norm?

what you described is very seemingly possible. look into PhoneGap (http://www.phonegap.com/) - you can develop apps in CSS/HTML/JAVASCRIPT that are compiled as normal apps. Nevertheless - it could probably also be done simply by making a normal website that utilizes the iOS Webkit - run the Mac with a local wifi network [not sure if there is a limit to how many people can be connected at once?] - then with MAMP running the server.. just have all of the ipads loading the server page.. using PHP/mySQL to keep track of who finds what. PhoneGap is the slick way to do it.. but might be overkill.

Go to that link and take a look. All that's needed to help is an internet connection and your spare processing power. I leave my computer on every night, so it may as well go to good use right?

I tried all suggestions in this thread and the song still won't play on Mac's IE or Firefox. It is not just my computer that won't cooperate, it is also the client's computer.

Try this link... http://www.saucedesigns.com/sauce.html (warning - the song will immediately play when you load this link... it is designed to be a pop-up that is initiated by the customer... so they don't have to listen if they don't want to!)

You will see how the song plays on Mac's Safari, but not IE/Firefox. It plays just fine on IE/Firefox for PC, so it isn't a browser-specific thing, it has to be a Mac/PC thing. Right?

    Thanks!

    Exactly, what's your problem?
    Anyway...
Today a girl at school saw my iPod (on case, that is) and screamed "Oh my God, the iPhone 4, I'm holding it on my hands! You are so lucky!" Seems I don't have to make any effort :D
It DOES look like the iPhone 4, except for the size, TBH. I love it, anyway.

Good point Dejo, here's the books:

Wrox: professional iphone and ipot touch programming, building apps for mobile safari

    Obj C for Dummies

    O'Reilly: Tapworthy

    Payload Media: iOS4 essentials

    O'Reilly: learning iPhone Programming

O'Reilly: iPhone App Dev, the missing manual

Addision Wesley: Programming in Obj C 2.0

    Wiley: Obj C develop reference

    Head First: iphone Development

As far as Amazon displaying more, several only show the 1st chapter, really after you have a few books it becomes more difficult to find a book that has something new in it that hasn't been covered by the other books.
I have no problem buying another book, I just don't want to buy a book that covers what I already have covered in other books.

I used to be able to browse the whole book and determine if it was going to be helpful before purchase, this doesn't seem to be the case with online books.

Books aren't expensive, but I don't want to have a bunch of books that mostly cover the same thing. Even in the past it was hard to find a good book that covered things in great detail so that you could really exploit things.

Looks like Amazon has one such book coming out about CoreAudio, I'm looking forward to that one :)

Thanks for the tip on UICatalog, I'll check it out.

I've decided that I don't really want to part out the machine if I do actually sell it. Right now it's looking like I have a good idea of what I want to do with both machines in the future so I may hold off on selling them.

Snow & Graphite iMacs FTW. Good score!

My friend texted me asking if I wanted an old iMac for free, I obviously said yes. It is a snow 600MHz iMac G3 with 512MB of RAM, 40GB HD, and it works wonderfully. I'm currently looking for my 10.4 disks and going to install Tiger on it. Can't wait.

Clearly, an external HDD is the answer. For the $100/month you're spending on cloud services, you could buy a TB of local storage each month.

Even better would be a NAS system -- basically a dedicated file server on your local network. There are lots of products out there. Drobo is a very popular one. There are a couple advantages to this approach. You can configure the system for RAID or similar failure protection, along with hot swapping drives to replace failed drives. The data is also readily available without the hassle of locating and plugging in a portable drive.

I find the NAS approach to be particularly useful for photo and video storage. You can actually do your editing directly off the network drive, or you can easily move the file over the network to the local disk in order to speed up processing. I use Lightroom to work on photo files stored on a network disk, and it works out very well.

Has anything happened for this yet?

After reading threads like this (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=163611), I think we should maybe start a guide about equivalent apps, Windows to Mac.

I don't know nearly enough about Wiki to start and don't have quite enough time to learn today. :o

The official TRIM support is already in Snow Leopard builds for the new Macbook Pros with SSDs and it's in Lion as well. The official support is only for the Apple's SSDs, no TRIM support for third party SSDs. There is a way to enable it for any SSD that supports TRIM, but it is a hack. Here's the thread: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1125400

Apple are usually conservative about their SSDs, they don't go for the top of the line SSDs. So, it is normal to see conservative speed from Apple's SSDs.

TRIM enabler is a hack, and some people have reported that their read/write speeds have dropped significantly after installing it on their macs. I'm worried that it even does the job, but I am guessing it just changes the kernel so that instead of saying 'No' it says 'Yes' under TRIM support in SERIAL-ATA.

I wonder why some routers block this kind of connection...Do you know what field should I check to see if there's a way to allow this?

You're thinking about it in the wrong way. The router isn't actually blocking that if it doesn't work, it just doesn't take extra measures to route the traffic that unnatural way.

Why would you need it to behave like that anyway?

The simple answer is that if your company is not making enough money to pay a trademark attorney, you don't need a trademark... these are business protections, and without revenue you have little to protect.

Even if you did pay for a trademark, it does not appear you would be able to protect yourself in court (a potentially far more expensive process)... this means that your trademark would soon be invalid because if you do not actively protect your trademark, you lose it.

The high cost of some of these processes can be seen as a deterrent to trademark squatting... not that much different than the people who buy up domain names hoping that someday they will be valuable.

In terms of your specific company (r.e. your PM), because of the strong possibility that many other entities share the same name, I do not think that you would be allowed to take ownership or copyright over it.

Agree, those who don't understand copyright or trademark should either read

    http://www.copyright.gov/ and http://www.uspto.gov/

    or hire a professional.

    Some of my favs...

    Super Stardust HD
    PixelJunk Monsters
    PixelJunk Eden
    PixelJunk Shooter
    Echochrome

Super Stardust is a twin-stick shooter that is a ton of fun and quite easy to learn. I really enjoy the PixelJunk games. Shooter is probably the best one, but it is a bit short. Eden is fun, but the difficulty ramps up to just BRUTAL levels. Monsters is great if you like "Tower Defense" games. Echocrome is a really neat puzzle game.

I was actually considering Pixeljunk Eden. It seemed pretty fun though I don't know if I can deal with a brutal difficulty level. :(

Just curious as to "how" you would do so? Had a friend who's phone was toast and I wish I could have helped...
