A friend of mine (GC) sent his and his family passports to DC embassy and they sent his wife's and one kids passports back to him and sent the remaining 2 passports to some one else in california. Fortunatly the person who received the passport was a nice guy and he called my friend and sent back the passports.
Bottom line is if you are in the tri city area (within a 100 miles of DC) its is better to go in person to the embassy to submit and pick up passport. Atleast you have peace of mind. For those who live far off there is no option but to post

The only catch could be on the MMR. MMR needs two vaccinations. The two vaccines nmeed to have a 1 month gap. So if you take one and to medical exam, they will force you take the 2'nd one right there. Ofcourse they don't care about the gap since they want to make money

Hi all,
After reviewing many posts I wanted to summarize the pros and cons of filing i-485 when one is a bachelor or bachelorette, i.e. single.
Pro:
The only pro that is available is you can use EAD and AC-21 to get a better job or new job (if laid off) if you satisfy the following conditions.
Conditions:
1.Maintain H1 till you bring spouse to USA on H4
2.your spouse changes to f1 or h1 later after coming to usa
3. your spouse does not have to travel outside USA till PD becomes current as he/she needs a new visa to enter back to USA. ofcourse can always get a new visa if possible.
Cons:
1. Your GC is approved before you get married - very bad situation.
2. You are married but cant bring spouse on valid H4 if you dont have valid h1
3. your spouse cant get H1 or F1 after coming to USA and remains on H4 which means you have to remain on H1 and cant use EAD.
4. Your H4 spouse goes out of status when your GC is approved before your PD becomes current. There may be 180 day grace period here. Experts help?
The only way possible to realize the benefit of filing 485 which is use EAD and AC(21) to get a better job or an additional job is to do the following
1. get married before GC is approved.
2. bring spouse to USA on some visa. if spouse is on H4 you need to have valid H1. if spouse is on H1 or F1 or L1 then no problem.
3. Move spouse out of H4 into other visa.
4. You Use EAD to get a different job.
5. When PD becomes current, spouse applies for 485.
Potential hiccups in this solution:
1. USCIS does not like that you used EAD and shifted employer.
2. Practical problems on getting a company to hire you on EAD.
3. Doing a status change for spouse.
If unmarried does not file 485 now::
1. Be in H1 for a long time with same employer based on your PD.

1. Satisfied with current employer ; PD is in 2004 or 2005.
2. Satisfied with current employer ; PD is in 2006 or 2007.
3. Not Satisfied with current employer and planning to use EAD ; PD is in 2004 or 2005.

What are the recommendations for these 4 groups of people?
Finally one has to consider layoffs or firings!!

This new law in its current form affects everyone who is here legally whether someone is a Student or H1B
1. Some one who is a student he gets extended OPT
2. The moment student want to file for H1, his employer should be willing to shell out nearly $10,000
3. Every extension subsequently costs same amount unless they dont increase it further.
4. Some one on H1b cant do consulting.
5. Some one whose EB petition is pedning and nearing 6th year is scrwed because of the reduction in VISA numbers and repealing of AC21.
6. Employers have to shell out $10000 every year to get extension.
A spoke with at least 10 people and have them signed up for IV.
Folks , Please talk about this issue when you make weekend calls. No one from EB community is spared from this draconian bill .

Why don't you take an Info-Pass and check with an immigration officer? In case of GC approved but yet to be received at your end, there is a possibility that they can stamp your passport with temporary GC (I-551 i think) for urgent travel.

I opted for renewing the AP online on Sept 22,2009.Got the receipt at the same time, and next day which is Sept 23 i sent the supporting documents along with the cover letter,2 photographs ,confirmation receipt ,485 receipt, DL copy and passport copy from Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. Today when I tried to check the status on postal website it says that document scanned on Sept 23 which means they haven't reached the destination, now this concerns me because previously when ever I applied AP and sent the supporting documents they normally take 2 to 3 business days to reach.
Now my question:
1) If suppose the AP supporting documents get lost in mail then can I send the documents again and if in the mean time postal service delivers the first set

I did the same this one month back. All you have to do is the letter to USCIS telling them that your attorney will not represent your case in future and please mail all the communication directly to my registered home address.
Send this letter to address mentioned in I-797 Notice of Reciept of I-485 with acknowledgement return address card.
Look for my previous post related to this and you will find the sample letter as well.

India govt will not involve in USA internal matters.Idea was floated long back by few members and core team responded to it.

The interests of indian citizens resident in the USA (all decent taxpayers) are not being taken care of by the US political system. There is a clear pattern of exploitation by employers and neglect by CIS, FBI and others.
In this situation, the interests of Indian citizens should be taken up by the Indian parliament. If they want to shy away from their duty, it should be taken up by the UN.

sp99, who is your internet service provider? For about 8 channels, you are paying ~$50. Do they also have any regular US local channels included in this package? The reason I am asking this question is that they charge about $50 for a few indian channels + other regular HD channels, if you get the dish from them. I understand that the iptv is for folks like me that can not install dish in the building. I am just trying to compare the price. Also, could you tell us if you had to sign a contract too?

I ordered Hindi Superpack, i was interested in Elite pack but it has $6 charge which becomes $40 for 4 channnels but add 4.99 and u get 8 channels...i was worried about buffering and quality of the programming but it is awesome..i watch it on my 50inch plasma..it is great..let me know if u have any more questions...

I was wondering, the 7% green card allotment for each country, can than be considered as racial discrimination? I mean a law suit against USCIS for discriminating against skilled workers.
A question for all you, what do you think is going to happen? will EB2 move fast in next few months, I don't understand how can U.S govt play will all our lives? We all have some personal decisions on hold,
Lastly i feel, we should contact some high profile politicians in India, so they can put a question or make some time of arrangement for Indians who are stuck over here, we all know unites states is interested in nuclear deal, if some type of provision is put in there to help Indians in this country
how about holding another DC rally?
We have to do some big about all this crap!

My husband is on H1B and I'm on Ead.....both of us have expired I-94 stamps.....we are planing to go to our home country this year...we want to apply for advance parole......my question is.....can we enter U.S both of us with AD?
I read on Uscis website that you need to have personal reason in order to go to your country while I-485 is pending....and you have to prove your personal reason.....is that true....we want only to visit our parents.

Does it make sense for anyone to file for GC anymore from India,China.Looks it will take a person 10year on an average and paying for ED/AP will cost around 7000usd for 10 years:)
