When prominent business houses like Microsoft, Google, Cisco, Oracle and organizations like AILA seem powerless when it comes to influencing senators, lawmakers and government organizations like USCIS and DOS, what can IV team do to change the policies. OMG these are all amazing! I can't imagine how much work went into these. I know nothing about 3d art/programs so I'm not sure what it takes to make curves and such. I loved Elisoe's for the openess and the pipes in the ceiling, BlueSun's for the tile work, and ThirdWorld's for the colors and curves. But I voted Grinch because the map on the wall is killer and looks very real. And plus I'm a cartographer so it just caught my eye. Makes me want to step in and take a closer look at it.

I was out last week. I am back now. Last time when we had a conference call, we decided to post flyers about immigration voice in our local communities and also getting in touch with the local newspapers. Since everyone is back from the holidays now, lets have a conference call next Wednesday. Till then, please post as many flyers as possible to increase IV's awareness.

I think -We have to come to our senses. The law wants to treat us as slaves. Do the work and go back. They do not want to give the opportunity to have the american dream. They do not have problem with mexicans, or arabic country people, or anybody. All they want is - we do not want smart talented ones to take our white collar jobs.
We are screwed by our Desi employers, the law. We do it for $. So it is really upto us to choose from. Money or respect.
When I see fellow indians, at the age of 40, I feel pity. Most of us would see that they are in dilema as what to do. What they are doing is correct. They live a succumbed life.
Choose life !! is the better option !!

Hello,
I am on H4 visa and thinking of filing for an H1 through a contrating co. But I have also heard the horror stories of these desi contrating co. which makes it more difficult for taking a decision.
i do not hold a US degree but i do have job experience from india. Can anyone advice on how to go about this situation.
Its essential for me to travel to india this year. If I go ahead and file through some co, will there be a problem at the consulate when i go there to get my visa stamped ? Is it advicable to travel during such a transition ?
What happens if I am unable to find a project & I'm on bench ? Am I an illegal resident in such situation ? please advice.

I've lot of friends whose spouses have transfered their visa from H4 to H1 successfully and doing good right now. I don't know a single one regretting their decision. Well, I agree with lot of horror stories here but do understand that there are decent companies as well who are straight forward and do not do things illegally. Do some research among your friends and well wishers and then take a decision. In forum like this, you will always find two side of the stories as everyone has their own agenda.

The unavailabilty of a Visa number does not 'cancel' an I-485 that has already been filed.
It merely means that one cannot file an I-485, OR if one has previously filed (during a period when cut-off dates were not retrogressed) an I-485, it cannot be approved.
USCIS may have proceeded very far on your case... but they (like you) must wait for an available number before approving your I-485.
By the way, I'm in EXACTLY the same boat as you: my PD is 03may02, everything but I-485 approved. My only difference was that my i-140 was approved in may 2005, a month before the retrogression crash: just missed getting GC, now expecting to wait 2 more years.:(

This is correct. EAD is based on pending 485 in most of our case. that's it.

The conference call was not organized by core. It was just 2 of us who discussed on the donor forum and came up with a draft letter to get clarrification from DOS. I suggest the first step is to get clarrification of the quarterly spillover with DOS regarding their process. Can any of you get an appointment with Charles Oppenheim (Chief of Immigrant Visa Control and Reporting Division at DOS)?
After working several hours and we come up with the draft which was posted earlier on this thread. And for that, someone gives me a Red.....

And if the goofing off was before your last entry into usa, it doesnt even matter, regardless of whether it was less than 180 or more than 180 days. As per IV core we should be doing lobbing and lobbing needs money. We had tried few times and the latest High Five had not collected enough money that can be used for lobbying. How can we count on our members to do something big.
I think we should work in our state level chapters, collect funds for activites and when we have a solid foundation talk about activities like flower campaign, rally etc.. where everybody would be involved.

I am not saying my lawyer is any better, all these lawyers are nothing but blood suckers just like the employers. I'm just disgusted that people can stoop so low. The objective might be the same, but the intentions are far from it. I hope you understand that my friend and stop being a PR rep for murthy or any lawyer. :)
